Not on tumblr anymore (though am thinking of re-joining), so that’s why I’m not following, but just wanted to let you know that I really love your page! I’ve been a fan of the show for a few months now and it’s great to see fans on Tumblr! Keep up the good work and will follow if I do re-join.

I think the fact that “tumblr user monkehmonk” has not once used arrows or reaction images in any correspondence with your esteemed self pretty much shits all over your frankly half-arsed attempt to goad me into getting annoyed with you. When you’ve learned enough reading comprehension to correctly attribute posts to their author, you have my permission to applaud yourself. Until such a time, you’re pretty much just making yourself look like a tit on the internet. Bye-bye.
There was a good reason I didn’t get involved in this argument - I don’t have any real compelling reason for being okay with her last name change. I’ve seen the progression of your love for Olga, and while I don’t really have the same love for her as I do for The Boss and EVA and Fortune, I understand the desire for her not to be written out of the story. I agree that the change is mostly to add a little extra Snotacon, and I can see why they’d do it. If everything goes the way fans see it, Snake will be canonically dead in Revengeance, and I think the reason was probably to induce feels related to Snake and Otacon’s adoption of Sunny.
But here’s another way to think about it - that perhaps the point of Sunny at both the ending of MGS4 and Revengeance is nurture over nature, the idea that those adopted take on the attributes of their adoptive parents. I mean, I don’t agree fully in this case as Sunny was already developing when she was adopted, but maybe the writers had an agenda related to adoption.
Or maybe Otacon adopted her simply for legal reasons - because in this future he has to pretend she’s his daughter to prevent them from getting separated by a terrible government.
The point is that there’s not enough information there to make me angry.well y’know, context could change things. I can’t say it’s a change I’ll ever be particularly pleased about, but if there’s some sort of ‘sense’ in terms of how the storyline presents the change, it’s not like I’ll never accept it. I just won’t like it much, is all. Olga got the short end of the stick storyline-wise so I’m just resistant to the idea of making Sunny “Hal’s” - she’s more than just that (as indeed, she’s more than just Olga’s daughter.)
As for anger…nah, I’m not angry at all. Somewhat annoyed by the decision sure, but not angry. I think it’s been a pretty civil discussion for the most part (troll notwithstanding) I don’t mind people disagreeing with me - para-medic raised plenty of good points even if I don’t necessarily agree with some of them.
For some reason, I thought you knew Faiya before, but I guess not. (S?)he was totally trolling. A non-troll would have made an actual argument. I understand it’s not a social justice thing but a personal love of a character thing. I was rather annoyed with Kojima about his over-martyrization of the Boss in Peace Walker, so I turned it into an alternate character interpretation (that EVA is an unreliable narrator, and then I found evidence for that in MGS3). Honestly, though, I’m not a fan of having online discussions about my character interpretations because some people do get possessive of their interpretations (which is totally okay).
Somehow it didn’t make sense, and it looked like you were replying to Faiya, so I thought there had been a URL change somewhere. I’m glad there aren’t any actual issues!
